After the VWO, Joost held a leadership position in the Air Force for six years. During that period, Joost also started law school. Joost graduated in two directions and participated in a (French speaking) pleading competition at the European Court of Human Rights. At the end of his studies, Joost took an internship in the legal department of an engineering firm. After his graduation Joost made a stop at a municipality for a short time, after which he became a lawyer at the Hoge Raad in 1995. Joost started with Dirkzwager in 2000 and has become a partner.Joost has four core areas in which he is active. These are:
- professional liability of lawyers, accountants and construction-related professions such as architects, engineers and home inspectors,
- AVB,
- injuries (traffic and accidents at work),
- automobile related issues.In relation to the latter, Joost is former chairman of the Disputes Committee of the Bovag and works freelance for the oldest .and according to him best .
Joost heeft na het VWO zes jaar een leidinggevende functie bij de Luchtmacht vervuld. In die periode is Joost ook met de rechtenstudie begonnen. Joost is in twee richtingen afgestudeerd en heeft deelgenomen aan een (Franstalig) pleitconcours bij het Europese Hof voor de Rechten van de Mens. Aan het einde van zijn studie heeft Joost stage gelopen op de juridische afdeling van een ingenieursbureau. Na zijn afstuderen heeft Joost een korte tijd een tussenstop bij een gemeente gemaakt, waarna hij in 1995 advocaat bij de Hoge Raad is geworden. In 2000 is Joost bij Dirkzwager begonnen en is doorgegroeid tot vennoot.Joost heeft vier kerngebieden waarop hij actief is. Dat zijn:
- beroepsaansprakelijkheid van advocaten, accountants en bouwgerelateerde beroepen zoals architecten, ingenieurs en woningkeurders,
- AVB,
- letsel (verkeer en arbeidsongevallen),
- automobiel gerelateerde kwesties.In relatie tot dat laatste, Joost is voormalig voorzitter van de Geschillencommissie van de Bovag en werkt freelance voor het oudste – en volgens hem beste – autoblad van Nederland.
