About

Judy Chun is a senior lawyer at Caravel Law with extensive experience in commercial, media, advertising, and technology law. She negotiates and drafts licensing, services, financing, software and SaaS, distribution, supply chain, and marketing agreements for clients in various industries, including loyalty, travel, automotive, beauty products and retail. Prior to joining Caravel Law, Judy held in-house positions at CTF (now The Canada Media Fund), Telefilm Canada, CBC, and practiced on Bay Street at Ogilvy Renault (now Norton Rose Fulbright) and Bennett Jones. At Caravel Law, Judy advises a diverse range of clients on general commercial, privacy, media, advertising, and marketing matters. Her significant in-house experience supporting leading beauty, apparel, and retail companies gives her a practical understanding of the challenges facing consumer-facing businesses, allowing her to provide commercially focused advice that balances legal risk with business objectives. In advertising and marketing law, Judy negotiates agency, media buy, sponsorship, and marketing partnership agreements, and reviews advertising across all platforms, including social media, TV, radio, web, mobile, email, and programmatic channels. She also advises on digital marketing compliance, influencer and native advertising, ad tech and data-driven advertising, and customer retention programs. She advises on advertising claims and substantiation, including comparative advertising, promotional and drip pricing, and savings claims, under the Competition Act and Ad Standards requirements, and has particular expertise in responding to Ad Standards consumer complaints and advertising clearance. She also advises on sweepstakes, contests and contest rules, giveaways, loyalty and rewards programs, and discount promotions. Judy currently acts as the Legal Consultant to the Canada Media Fund, a public-private partnership providing funding to the creative production industry in Canada.
