Civil Law · Ontario, Canada
Lawyer · Goldblatt Partners LLP · Toronto
For over 40 years, Howard Goldblatt has represented a multitude of trade unions and their members in every conceivable labour law matter. An indefatigable advocate, Howard is nowhere more at home than when he is questioning witnesses or making submissions to an adjudicator or a court.
Throughout his career, grievance arbitration has always been a large part of Howard’s practice. He has argued or settled more grievance arbitration cases than most people have had hot breakfasts. And when clients need someone to help them negotiate or arbitrate the terms of a collective agreement, they know Howard will get them the best possible deal.
Howard also represents trade unions at the Ontario Labour Relations Board in unfair labour practice, illegal strike and duty of fair representation applications. In addition, he frequently represents clients in judicial review applications and appeals.
Whatever the case, Howard knows that the outcome matters to that union and its members. He applies the same analytic, strategic, and advocacy abilities to all matters, whether he is litigating a complicated freedom of association application or a more routine job posting case. Trade unions know they are in the best hands.
From 2011 to 2019, Howard served as an elected bencher of the Law Society of Ontario.
Howard does have one key frailty. He loves the Toronto Blue Jays a bit too much – a love that, most seasons, is simply not returned.
