Family law disputes can bring out the worst in people. Richard believes they should bring out the best in their lawyers.
A founding partner of Niman Mamo LLP, Richard is an experienced litigator whose practice is devoted exclusively to family law. Called to the Ontario Bar in 2011, he approaches his cases with careful preparation, strategic judgment, and an appreciation for the considerable personal and financial stakes involved.
Richard understands that clients come to him at difficult and often uncertain moments in their lives. Whether a case involves complex financial issues, significant family assets, or a contentious parenting dispute, his focus is on protecting his clients’ interests and helping them navigate the process with confidence.
Richard believes that effective advocacy requires more than knowing the law. It requires understanding people, anticipating problems, and exercising sound judgment about when to negotiate and when to litigate. He is comfortable with difficult cases, direct in his advice, and prepared to take matters to trial when necessary. He also recognizes that the best outcome is not always the one that requires the most fighting.
Richard has conducted trials and appeals at all levels of court in Ontario and appeared before disciplinary tribunals. He has also conducted numerous family law arbitrations and mediations. His litigation experience extends beyond family law, informing his approach to complex disputes and contested hearings.
Richard articled at one of Canada’s distinguished criminal defence firms before practising criminal law, regulatory law, professional discipline, and civil litigation at a respected Toronto boutique. He joined Niman Gelgoot and Associates LLP in 2014, where he developed his focus on family law.
